Kano school girls receive N917 million to motivate enrollment

At least 45,850 school girls in Kano would receive ATM cards for conditional cash transfer totalling N917 million under the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment, AGILE.

flagging off the card distribution exercise on Friday, the state Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, said the beneficiaries were drawn from 19 local governments of the state that are educationally under privileged.

According Governor Abba, AGILE which is a tripartite project between the Federal government, Kano state government and the World bank, also covers the provision of stipends, rehabilitation and construction of classrooms for effective teaching and learning.

He warned the state’s public school authority to desist from illegal fees and charges, ”as education is free in the state”.

”The state government will not fold its arms to watch the continuation of the ugly trend and all concerned parties must take note and comply,” he stressed.

Speaking earlier, the project coordinator on AGILE Conditional Cash Transfer in Kano state, Alh Nasiru Abdullahi Kwalli said the project is aimed at creating new safe learning spaces and improving existing infrastructure in secondary schools.
