Open letter to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf

I hope this letter finds you in good health and high spirits. I wish to commend the remarkable commitment of your administration to reviving the education sector of Kano State.
Your Excellency’s dedication to improving the educational opportunities for indigent Kano people has not gone unnoticed: N700 million scholarship for Kano students at Bayero University Kano (BUK) and sponsoring hundreds of students to study in various Indian universities. These showcased your commitment to empowering the youth and fostering academic excellence.
I would also like to draw Your Excellency’s attention to an area that I believe is of great significance – the state of science and technical secondary schools in Kano.
While this administration has achieved commendable progress in higher education in less than 100 days of its existence, it is essential to strengthen the foundation of education: Our public secondary and primary schools are in deplorable states in terms of teaching manpower, infrastructure decay and decline enrolment.
Your Excellency may recall that many of our science and technical secondary schools have faced neglect in the recent past, resulting in a decline in quality of education.
Technical schools play a crucial role in nurturing the next generation of scientists, engineers, and skilled professionals who are essential for the development and progress of our state. I would like Your Excellency to consider reviving and revitalizing these science and technical secondary schools.
Principally, there is the need for total overhaul of the Science and Technical Schools’ Board. The government needs to weed out the destructive corruption in the Board.
An improved welfare will encourage the teachers to impart knowledge. In addition, the government could introduce academic competitions among the schools. This will ensure that students at the grassroots receive quality education that aligns with the demands of modern industries and technological advancements. These and other changes, in my opinion, would be key to reviving the schools.
To mention an unofficial fact, it was argued that the establishment of the Science and Technical Schools’ Board and Engr Kwankwaso’s foreign scholarship training which you are continuing now are the most important educational policies in the history of Kano State.
I understand the numerous challenges that any government faces when striving to address various sectors simultaneously. However, with your proven dedication and effective leadership, I believe that Kano State will reclaim its lost glory in the educational and other sectors.
Once again, Your Excellency, I commend your exceptional dedication to the progress of Kano State. I wish you continued success in all your endeavors.
