Nigerian superstars Victor Osimhen and Asisat Oshoala have collectively made a resounding statement on the continent after sweeping the biggest honours at the CAFAwards2023.
The euphoria and pride sweeping the country are palpable as Nigerians and football fans celebrate the emergence of Osimhen and Oshoala as the Player of the Year winners in the men’s and women’s categories on Monday night in Morocco.
The 24-year-old became the first Nigerian to be named CAF Player of the Year since Kanu Nwankwo won the award 24 years ago.
Osimhen’s award comes as a crowning achievement for what has been an excellent 12 months for club, and country and a testament to his exceptional talent.
He beat two formidable opponents Mohamed Salah of Egypt and homeboy, Achraf Hakimi, to be named the new king of African football.
In the women’s category, it was never in doubt as Oshoala once again asserted her dominance as Africa’s undisputed queen.
Not only was she crowned Africa’s best woman football player for 2023, but it was a historic sixth win for the Nigerian and FC Barcelona Agba baller.

Solidifying her status as Africa’s number one, the 28-year-old also witnessed his compatriot and friend, Osimhen’s proud moment as the duo restored Nigeria’s past glory.
Following the double joy, reactions from fans, especially Nigerians are overflowing with pride on social media.
The country is in a celebratory mood, with Nigerians happy to see the country back at the top of African football again.
