Pay Zakat to curb poverty, Wazirin Danbatta urges Kano affluent
Amb. Mustapha Shehu, Wazirin Danbatta, has stressed the fundamental impact of fulfilling Zakat obligation by affluent as a veritable means of ameliorating economic hardship.
Amb. Shehu, who described Zakat as a means of wealth redistribution in the society, urged the rich in Kano and across the country to pay the annual charity in the holy month of Ramadan as part of collective efforts to ease the present economic suffering.

Waziri cited the glorious Qur’an as saying: “And establish prayer and give Zakat, and whatever good you put forward for yourselves – you will find it with Allah.” (2:110, Qur’an).
He gave the admonition in his palace on Sunday while playing host to the Editor-in-Chief of DAILY COMMERCE, Yusuf Issa An-Nuphawi.
According to Amb. Shehu, Zakat is one of the pillars of Islam, the religion that is a complete way of civilization with established laws that dignified mankind, preach empathy, and upholds fundamental rights and duties of everyone.
He urged Kano Business Community and food commodity merchants in the markets to desist from hoarding essential consumables or price gauging, noting that the fight against current economic hardship should not be left for Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf alone.
Further, Wazirin Danbatta appealed to all Muslims of means for prompt giving out of Zakatul-Fitr, foodstuff charity, at the end of Ramadan to ensure that poor families are happy during Sallah as have food to eat.
Amb. Shehu added that traditional leaders in Kano are committed to supporting the government in ensuring peace and tranquility of the State, urging the masses to pray for the leaders especially in the last ten days of the holy month.
