Abba appoints Gawuna, Ganduje others as members of advisory council

Kano Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has appointed former governor of the state and the current national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Abdullahi Ganduje, and Nasiru Gawuna, the APC governorship candidate in the 2023 election as members of the Kano State Elders Forum.

The governor disclosed this while addressing a press men at the Governor’s Lodge in Abuja.

He said that the state has been blessed with numerous elders and former leaders, who had achieved the pinnacle of their respective careers and continued to be active and healthy.

This came a day after Supreme Court affirmed his victory as the governor of the state.

He said: “I wish to announce the formation of the Kano Council, which will serve as an advisory body to the government of Kano State under my leadership.

“This Elders Council shall comprise of all former governors, former deputy governors, former Senate presidents (if any), former speakers of the House of Representatives, former deputy speakers (if any), former speakers of the State House of Assembly, former deputy speakers of the State House of Assembly, retired Supreme Court justices, retired Appeal Court justices, and former chief justices of the state.”

Other members of the councils include former secretaries to the state government; former heads of Kano State Civil Service who are indigenes of the state; leadership of the Ulama, business community and traditional institutions; former heads of security agencies from Kano State; and “such other elders to be identified and appointed by the government into the council.”

Earlier on Sunday, people thronged to the streets as the the governor arrived in Tamburawa, Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area of Kano State.

As early as 6 am, supporters and well-wishers of Governor Yusuf, trooped out to Chiroma town, a border bordering Kano and Kaduna eagerly waiting for the arrival of Governor Yusuf, who decided to come to the state capital rather than taking a flight.

As soon as the Governor arrived Kwanar Dangora the mammoth crowds busted into singing and dancing, having passed through some major towns in the neighbouring Kaduna State, acknowledging cheers from the people there.
