Ahead of health implications of consuming food prepared by vendors, especially those doing their business beside open drainages, the Nigerian Council of Food Science and Technology said it will commissioned a survey of food facilities in five local government areas of Lagos State.
The LGAs where the survey will be conducted include Surulere, Agege, Apapa, Ikorodu and Ikeja.
This was disclosed by the council’s Registrar, Mrs Veronica Eze, during a sensitisation forum held in Lagos on Wednesday to solicit the support of the stakeholders.
Eze also stated that the agency had engaged the services of the National Bureau of Statistics for the survey which included collecting, compiling, analysing, and interpreting data to ensure that food items consumed and exported to other countries are safe.
When asked if the NICFOST had plans for roadside food vendors, especially those doing their business beside open drainages, the registrar said the Council would work with stakeholders to sensitise such vendors on safe ways to do their business.
