A group of lawyers under the aegis of Concerned Northern Forum has vowed to institute legal action against the Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, demanding the payment of adequate compensation for the victims of Tudun Biri bombed by the military airstrikes in Kaduna State.
Recall the erroneous airstrike attack that occurred on Sunday, December 3, 2023, killed over 120 civilians.
Speaking on behalf of the lawyers forum, Barrister Nafi’u Abubakar, explained that the forum would ensure that the families that suffered irreparable loss as a result of this unfortunate incident get justice.
Nafi’u who spoke while addressing newsmen in Kaduna on Saturday urged the Federal Government to take immediate and decisive action to ensure a thorough and independent investigation into this incident.
“It is imperative that those responsible are held accountable for their actions, and measures are put in place to prevent any recurrence of such incidents in the future.
“We also urge the Nigerian Army to reevaluate its rules of engagement and training procedures to prevent the loss of innocent lives during military operations. It is vital that the Nigerian Army, as a defender of the nation, exercises utmost caution to avoid any further instances of collateral damage and civilian casualties,” he said.
The forum with over 600 members extended their deepest condolences to the families who lost their loved ones during the tragic incident.
“We stand united with them in their grief and pledge our unwavering support in ensuring justice is served. The Concerned Northern Lawyers Forum will work tirelessly to pursue legal means to claim the compensation that is owed to the victims,” he said.
Meanwhile, earlier Tinubu had vowed to punish whoever was found culpable in the error drone bombing.
He also assured all that all the victims would be taken care of under the FULAKO Initiative which would commence by this month.!
Tinubu, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, made the statement on Thursday shortly after visiting the victims at Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital to condole with them over the incident.
The President said the Federal Government remains committed to the fight against banditry across the region.

He said, “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu sent us to commensurate with the people of Kaduna over the tragic incident. The caliber of people that are here with me is a testimony to how deeply touched the president was by the incident.
“The President was deeply touched by what happened we would like to assure the people and government of Kaduna State that the government will take measures to protect and preserve the interest of our nation.
“The victims will be well taken care of under the FULAKO Initiative which will commence by this month and this community will be the first to be rebuilt in the northwest zone.
“All measures will be taken to ensure that future occurrences are averted. Government will go to the root of the issue and anyone found culpable will be punished accordingly.”
