Kano Gov, dissolves LGA interim officers amid legal shifts

In a move aligning with recent legal rulings, Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has dissolved the Interim Management Officers overseeing the state’s 44 local government councils.

The officers, who have managed the councils for the past six months, were removed following a directive issued during a wednesday meeting between the governor and the outgoing officials.

Governor Yusuf praised the officers for their dedication during their brief tenure but directed them to transfer all administrative responsibilities to the Directors of Personnel Managements (DPMs) of their respective councils.

The DPMs will assume control until new local government elections, scheduled for October 26, 2024, are conducted. The governor’s decision seems to preempt any potential legal complications arising from the recent Supreme Court ruling, which prohibits the appointment of caretaker committees in local government councils nationwide.

With the upcoming elections in view, the dissolution highlights the state’s efforts to ensure that local governance is aligned with national legal standards while maintaining administrative continuity in the interim.
