The embattled chairman of Gwale Local Government Area (LGA) of Kano state, Khalid Ishaq has been fingered by sources in the Local Government as being linked with the fire incidence that gutted parts of the Secretariat of the LGA early Wednesday morning.
Ishaq, who was elected chairman of Gwale Local Government during the immediate past regime in the state under the All Progressives Congress (APC) was suspended by the Kano State House of Assembly (KNHA) for three months.
His suspension followed a petition written by all the Councillors of the local government and submitted to the KNHA.
He sorted for legal redress to which the court issued an order for his reinstatement pending the determination of the case.
The sources stated that he went to the local government to forcefully reinstate himself back to office using thugs which led to clashes with the supporters of the Councilors that suspended him and subsequently led to the fire outbreak.
The Commissioner of Police Hussaini Muhammad Gumel, has confirmed the incidence to newsmen in Kano in a telephone interview that the incident occurred at about 05am-06:30am.
He said that upon report received from Special Service Unit Of Gwale LGA that part of the secretariat of the local government area was torched by fire.
He explained that the main secretariat building remains intact however, three departments of Community Service, Works and Audit were affected.
“We have since commence intensive investigation Police Investigation to o unravel the remote and immediate causes of the fire out break” the Commissioner added.

It can be recalled that there has been series of protests in Kano by different segments of the society including women groups, youth, ulama, the physically challenged and members of the Civil Society among others,
protesting the outcome of Appeal Court judgement but no any act of violence was ever recorded.
