The increase in fuel prices may exacerbate myriad of challenges facing patients in Kano public health facilities as the management of Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, AKTH, adjusted the operating hours for its generator set in a bid to cut cost of diesel, it described as unsustainable.
According to the internal circular sighted by DAILY COMMERCE, the hospital said it was constrained not to operate the generators between 2:00pm to 6:00pm daily except otherwise authorized .
The circular signed on behalf of the Chief Medical Director by Mrs Hajara M. Ahmed, read in part: “ However, emergence that arose between the hours stated above ( 2: 00pm – 6:00pm) should be referred to other health facilities within the state.”
Further, the management directed Ward Managers in theatre to power the side generators attached to the theatre in case of power outage during ongoing procedure so as to complete the procedure.
Meanwhile, it assured the Hospital community that usual times for generator operating hours would be restored as soon as the situation improves.
